The Vigil Honor is the highest honor that the local lodge can bestow upon its Brotherhood members.  Vigil Honor recipients are still Brotherhood members, but have been recognized by their Lodge, and the National Order of the Arrow Committee, for their continued service and dedication to the order.  The first Vigil Honors were bestowed upon E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson the founders of the Order of the Arrow in 1915.

Members that have been approved by the National OA office are inducted during a special ceremony, where they are given their Vigil name in both English as well as the language of the Leni Lenapi, the Native American Indian tribe that inspired the Order of the Arrow.   For instance: Achewon Nimat Vigil Member Steve Kline’s Indian name is “Elhigunk Sabbeleechen Ichacquot Tschipisin” which when translated means “Big Spark Loose Contact”.  The use of bizarre and funny names to reflect the individual’s persona began in Machek N’Gult lodge.  One member was even known as “Big Fish with Turkey Lips”.

The following 185 Brotherhood members of Achewon Nimat Lodge 282 received their Vigil Honor between 1964 and 1985.
